Across the Global South, mounting debt crises are stripping governments of their ability to invest in education, health, and social protection, the very foundations of girls’ futures.
MENAFem joins the global call initiated by the Malala Fund through the statement “Debt is Stealing Girls’ Futures”, affirming that debt justice is also gender justice.
Unjust debt structures are not only an economic issue; they are a feminist concern that perpetuates inequality and silences generations of women and girls.
We stand in solidarity with movements around the world demanding fair and transparent debt restructuring, and calling on international financial institutions and governments to prioritize people’s rights over creditors’ profits.
This joint call is supported by feminist and civil society organizations worldwide, including MENAFem, as part of our ongoing commitment to economic and gender justice in the MENA region.
