MENA Fem Movement for Economic, Development and Ecological Justice.
Our Vision
MENAFem envisions a new global economic system based on intersectional feminist principles, human rights, and ecological justice driven by the needs of communities and the marginalized, in particular in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and beyond.
Our Mission
Our mission is to confront poverty, deprivation, inequalities and lack of substantive democratic rights by empowering communities and vulnerable groups to resist all forms of injustices and inequalities through the provision of jointly=developed tools, support and strategies. This includes enabling their participation in the creation of fair, human rights-centred alternative policies, fostering linkages and cooperation with broader African and global movements and influencing decision-making processes related to debt management, development financing, and climate justice.
Our Network
Established in 2023, our movement consists of local and regional organizations dedicated to achieving equitable development and fostering a just, ecologically sustainable feminist economy. We focus on facilitating cooperation and coordination among the movement and beyond to increase collective capacity to influence global financial systems, particularly major financial institutions and to contribute on the other Debt and Development regional and global movements while also supporting the specific needs of MENA region which arise from particular cultural, historic, economic and geopolitical circumstances.
What We Do
Our work centers around:
MenaFemDaD
- Debt Management and Economic Justice: We strive to influence policies related to debt management and economic justice from a feminist perspective. This involves organizing and mobilizing advocacy campaigns to effect policy change, producing alternative narratives, knowledge, and research, and challenging unjust economic systems.
Ecological Justice
- we aim to achieve justice in right to Food, climate finance, renewable energy transition , through a green feminist approach .
Strengthening capacities of local and feminist movements
- We aim to enhance the capabilities of local organizations and movements, particularly feminist groups, in the MENA region. We provide support and resources developed jointly to empower them to advocate for human rights centred development andeconomic and climate justice.
MenaFem Hub
- Networking and collaboration: We facilitate connections between local, regional, and global organizations and movements working towards equitable development and economic and climate justice. By linking local struggles with regional and global movements, we aim to generate a broader impact on issues that resonate locally but have regional and international dimensions.
Objectives
Our objectives are:
- Support local and regional organizations, particularly feminist groups, in engaging with and influencing economic and climate justice agendas.
- Foster connections between local and regional struggles to address common issues related to economic and climate justice.
- Strengthen capacities of rights-based and feminist organizations and movements at the local and regional levels to monitor policies and projects of major international financial institutions.
- Contribute to the production of feminist-oriented alternative policies.
- Contribute to the production of alternative economic policies from a feminist perspective.
Through our network’s collaborative efforts, we strive to create a transformative impact on economic and climate justice agendas in the MENA region and globally. By centering feminist perspectives, amplifying marginalized voices, and advocating for equitable policies, we believe in working towards a future where justice, equality, and sustainability intersect.
