MENA Fem Movement for Economical, Development and Ecological Justice

First Episode of “Austerity Radio” is Out Now

MENA Fem Movement for Economic, Development, and Ecological Justice (MENAFem) is excited to launch the first episode of its new podcast, “Austerity Radio”—a space that opens up critical conversations around feminist economic thought and its relevance to our region, amid deepening crises fueled by neoliberal policies, old and new forms of colonialism, and structural inequalities.

In Austerity Radio, we explore how feminist perspectives offer alternative understandings of the economy—ones that center overlooked values such as care, solidarity, social justice, and local, community-driven economies. We ask difficult questions about justice and wealth distribution, and we search for tangible alternatives to extractive economic systems that drain both people and resources. This podcast is an invitation to radical imagination and collective thinking towards economies that center people and the planet.

🎙️ The first episode, “Decolonizing Economics,” is out now!
In this episode, we discuss how feminist economics challenges the neocolonial models that dominate the Global South, and how it can serve as a powerful tool to break from economic colonialism and build social justice that is inseparable from gender justice.

Guests:

  • Dr. Samia Al-Botmeh, Economist and Professor at Birzeit University – Palestine

  • Mayada Hassanein, Feminist Economics Researcher – Sudan
