True Colors of Green Hydrogen: Launching In-Depth Analysis Series of Green Hydrogen Projects in North Africa‎‎

With green hydrogen becoming a key pillar of the global energy transition and climate strategies, it is increasingly being promoted across North Africa through international frameworks such as the European Union’s Global Gateway Initiative.

While funding agencies praise these projects for their technological and environmental potential, their local impacts on frontline communities, women, environmental justice, and equitable development are also being considered. To advance knowledge on these considerations, MENAFem in collaboration with researchers and experts from Tunisia, Egypt, and Morocco, launched a series of in-depth analytical papers.

These papers explore the social, economic, and environmental impacts of green hydrogen initiatives in North Africa, offering a human-centered perspective on the region’s energy future. The event aimed to share key findings and insights from research conducted in Morocco and Tunisia that promote a just and inclusive approach to energy development. We also wanted to contribute to providing a space for dialogue between civil society, policymakers, and researchers on just energy transitions. This event represented an opportunity to reshape the narrative surrounding green hydrogen.
