This gathering, as an alternative space during the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings 2024, offers feminists and allies a opportunity to come together, heal, and share global South feminist stories of resistance and reflections on the impacts of colonial, neoliberal, patriarchal, extractive economic hegemony on their lives, work/activism, and contexts. The event will spotlight creative expression through art, a brief documentary, and readings including from the 80th anniversary feminist blog series recently produced by MENAFem and WEDO. Nourishment and feminist joy and liberation will be offered through snacks, drinks, and dancing accompanied by DJ Basbousa. As we mark the 80th anniversary of the Bretton Woods system, we aim to create a vibrant, alternative space to challenge its colonial legacy and envision a feminist future.

Why participate?

  • Amplify your voice: Share your critical perspectives on the IMF and World Bank’s policies and their impact on women and communities in the Global South.

  • Build solidarity: Connect with like-minded feminists from around the world and foster a sense of collective power.

  • Create impact: Contribute to a powerful event that will challenge the dominant narrative and inspire action.

Join us in challenging the status quo! Request an open mic slot / share art, song, poetry

We invite anticolonial feminists, artists, and creatives from the Global South and beyond to contribute to this gathering on the sidelines of the IMF-WB Annual Meetings in Washington DC this October.

What we’re looking for:

  • Poetry and writing: Poems, essays, short stories, and other written forms that explore the themes of anticolonial feminism, economic justice, and collective liberation.

  • Letters and blog posts: Share your personal experiences and critical reflections on the impact of the Bretton Woods system.

  • Other forms of creative expression! A short performance; a piece of art we can display in the room; other ideas welcome!

We prioritize submissions that embody the politics of solidarity, joy, and care, and that offer a counter-narrative to the dominant discourse.

To request a slot in the open mic or submit a piece of artwork, please indicate your interest and a brief description of your piece in the RSVP form.

Unfortunately there is no funding available to cover attendees’ travel or participation.

Let’s come together to create a collectivist space where our voices are heard and our visions for a just and equitable world are shared!
